Tuesday 30th week even numbered year
“Jesus went on to say ’What is the Kingdom of God like? What shall I compare it with? It is like a mustard seed which a man took and threw into his garden : it grew and became a tree, and the birds of the air sheltered in its branches.”
There is a contrast in this Word between the smallest of all seeds and the big tree it has become, spreading its long branches. We have only tiny little seeds to spread God’s Kingdom in the world and in our hearts, so few things. Just everything we do throughout our daily life.
What brings value to our acts is the Love we have. Yet it remains so poor and fragile.
This little mustard seed is the act of Love I can do in my life and which seems insignificant.
We dare to believe that when we throw these small seeds in the big field of Jesus’ Redemption , in the Heart of our Father, He , by the power of the Holy Spirit, transforms these small seed into a tree which will draw to it all of God’s birds, all of his children throughout the whole world.where the birds come and nest.
“It is like the yeast a woman took and mixed in with three measures of flour till it was leavened all through.”
So we can understand this even more seeing how Jesus uses a parable for our profit-seeking age. The finality of God’s work doesn’t depend on place nor time. This is again the mystery of God’s Infinite Love, when we have welcomed him into our existence, and this will completely transform our lives :
’The yeast that a woman took and mixed in with three measures of flour till it was leavened all through."
A small measure, compared with a large quantity of flour. If I dare give a little smile, an act of love, a benevolent word, a compassionate look, then the human dough will rise. Whether I am asleep or awake it will rise!
God’s Kingdom is God’s Infinite Love transforming humanity today. It can be a small act, a small gesture, a simple word, apparently insignificant and maybe one that goes unseen. It doesn’t matter! This small seed is sown, it will do its work and in a mysterious way this small seed is capable of turning into a big tree.
“Again he said ’What shall I compare the Kingdom of God with?”
The disciples are surprised to hear Jesus speaking in parables to the crowd, they who are always referring to psalms, texts of the Prophets.
At each moment of our lives we are there before decisive choices. Parables come to remind us of this.
God’s Loving plan is what is marvellous for us in our Salvation. Jesus comes to re enforce our courage so we can have a renewed fecundity! This give us hope for unity and love.
’Jesus gave himself up.’ He gave us God’s Infinite Love. ’He loved me gave Himself up for me.’ He want- me to be holy as God is Holy and for this to come about he gives Himself up again in his Church.
Jesus’ passion purifies humanity. The Church, through Baptism’s waters and the Word of Life reveals to us this New Life. Jesus wants to present a lovely resplendent humanity, one that has neither wrinkle nor mark, one that is faultless. Our call is to enter into this revelation of God’s Infinite Love.
